World Premiere – Westerly’s Gold: Sweet, Spicy, and Full of Tradition
Join us for a very special SoupyFest Series event featuring the world-premiere screening of Westerly’s Gold: Sweet, Spicy, and Full of Tradition – a new feature-length documentary on Westerly Soupy from filmmakers Chris Walsh and Betty-Jo Cugini.
In the small coastal town of Westerly, Rhode Island, a cherished tradition brought from Calabria, Italy, continues to thrive. Westerly’s Gold explores the art of making “soupy,” the local nickname for Italian soppressata, a flavorful cured meat that symbolizes more than just culinary skill.
Each winter, families gather to craft their unique blends of soupy—hot, spicy, or sweet—while sharing stories, wine, and laughter. This heartfelt documentary celebrates the enduring bonds of family and the immigrant legacy that shaped this close-knit community, highlighting how one simple tradition unites generations and keeps the spirit of love and heritage alive.
