Westerly’s Gold: Sweet, Spicy, and Full of Tradition – SoupyFest Series Screening

Black Box Auditorium
Join us as we bring a new tradition back to the UNITED Black Box for a very special SoupyFest Series event screening of Westerly’s Gold: Sweet, Spicy, and Full of Tradition – the feature-length documentary on Westerly Soupy from filmmakers Chris Walsh and Betty-Jo Cugini.
In the small coastal town of Westerly, Rhode Island, a cherished tradition brought from Calabria, Italy, continues to thrive. Westerly’s Gold explores the art of making “soupy,” the local nickname for Italian soppressata, a flavorful cured meat that symbolizes more than just culinary skill. This heartfelt documentary celebrates the enduring bonds of family and the immigrant legacy that shaped this close-knit community, highlighting how one simple tradition unites generations and keeps the spirit of love and heritage alive.
This event is part of the 2026 SoupyFest Series at the UNITED – a lineup of special events celebrating Italian culture and heritage and leading up to the UNITED’s annual SoupyFest celebration on April 11th.
