Join us for a lively panel all about the joys of recreational fishing in our local waters presented by Eating with the Ecosystem in our next installment of the UNITED Table series. Whether you’re curious about casting a line, digging for clams, or hauling in crabs, this fun and approachable conversation will cover the many ways to catch your own seafood—from fish to mollusks to crustaceans. Attendees will get a tasting of truly Rhode Island clam chowder at the event.
Along the way, you’ll pick up insider tips on local rules and regulations (so you can fish smart and responsibly), plus plenty of inspiration for turning your fresh catch into a delicious meal at home. Expect stories, practical advice, and a celebration of the connection between our coastal waters and what ends up on your plate. Panelists include Melva Treviño Peña, PhD – a human geographer and Assistant Professor in the Department of Fisheries, Animal, and Veterinary Sciences at the University of Rhode Island; Nathan Andrews – Marine Biologist at RIDEM; and John Lee – owner and operator of JL Charters in Narragansett.
The UNITED Table series is a new culinary entertainment series presented by The United Theatre to celebrate the food we eat and the creative, hardworking people who take the care and thought in preparing and presenting that food, preserving its history, and filling our lives with the tastes, smells, and experiences that bring people together. Through conversations, tastings, book talks, food fests, and screenings from the culinary cineverse, The UNITED Table invites you to pull up a chair. Bon appétit!
Eating with the Ecosystem is a Rhode Island Non-profit focused on a place based approach to seafood in New England where we have great opportunities to support our local economy, our environment and our health through the sustainable harvest of fish. www.eatingwiththecosystem.org
