Shovels & Rope are the acclaimed folk-rock duo of husband and wife Michael Trent and Cary Ann Hearst from Charleston, South Carolina. Blending elements of traditional folk, rock and roll, and country rock, the pair first came together after years of building individual solo careers. Since officially launching the project in 2012 with the breakout album O’ Be Joyful, they’ve become a standout voice in the Americana scene, earning honors at the Americana Music Awards and appearing on national television including The Late Show with David Letterman. Known for their raw, energetic live shows and heartfelt songwriting, the duo continues to tour and record widely. Their seventh album, Something Is Working Up Above My Head, was released in 2024 on Dualtone Records.
