Salt Marsh Opera presents Cinderella

Experience the enchantment of opera with Salt Marsh Opera’s upcoming performance of Gioachino Rossini’s Cinderella at the UNITED on May 7th at 7pm!
In Don Magnifico’s Milan fashion house, Cinderella, a seamstress and aspiring fashion designer with loads of talent is laboring under the oppressive antics of her stepfather (Magnifico) and wannabe-model stepsisters, Clorinda and Tisbe. Magnifico’s ultimate desire is to have his spring collection shown as part of the giant fashion week show produced by the House of Ramiro. When Ramiro arrives at Magnifico’s atelier disguised as his valet, Dandini, he meets Cinderella and is struck by her kindness and beauty. Dandini, posing as Ramiro, arrives declaring that he is inviting the House of Magnifico to present its collection at Ramiro’s fashion week show. Cinderella begs her stepfather to go to the fashion show and present a look of her own, but Magnifico refuses. Alidoro, Cinderella’s fairy godfather, shows up and reminds Cinderella of her talents; she creates a magnificent gown and goes to Ramiro’s show.
Dandini, still disguised as Ramiro at the fashion show, is desperately trying to avoid the preening and self-aggrandizing Clorinda and Tisbe. Cinderella arrives in her gown and causes a sensational stir that resonates across the fashion world. Ramiro is enchanted by her, though he does not immediately recognize her. In the excitement (and realizing that she might be recognized by her stepfamily), she rushes away without telling Ramiro her name. Ramiro tells Dandini that he has had enough of the switched roles – he is going as himself to search for the woman he met at the fashion show. Dandini returns to the House of Magnifico to break the news that he isn’t Ramiro. When Ramiro arrives and recognizes Cinderella, Magnifico, Clorinda, and Tisbe are shattered. Cinderella, in her kindness and talent, encourages everyone to work together to create a new design empire that is run by the combined fashion houses.
