Herself
The Irish Coastal Club, in partnership with The United Theatre presents the first-annual Westerly Irish Film Fest. Leading up to Saint Patrick’s Day, we’ll be showcasing three films from the land of saints and scholars – the new, charming Irish-language comedy Róise & Frank (2023); the now classic animated family film Song of the Sea (2014); and the sweet and quietly eloquent Herself (2020). Tickets to each film are $10 (not subject to Tuesday cinema discounts)- sold individually. The Irish Coastal Club is a Rhode Island non profit social club that enjoys sharing Irish culture with the community through a variety of special events and classes in all aspects of Irish heritage. In Herself, single mother Sandra (Clare Dunne) escapes her abusive partner with her two young children, only to find herself trapped in temporary accommodation. After months of struggling, she draws inspiration from one of her daughter’s bedtime stories and hits upon the idea of self-building an affordable home.
