Harvard-Yale Regatta: A Talk on the Most Famous Race in Rowing

Join us as we celebrate one of the most famous races in the sport of rowing: The Harvard-Yale Regatta. The 157th meeting of two of the most successful programs in the sport will be held on the Thames River in New London, CT, on June 8th this year. “The Race,” as it is sometimes called, is the oldest intercollegiate athletic competition in the country. Partnering with Stonington Community Rowing, Inc., the UNITED presents a special evening with legendary rowing coach, Steve Gladstone and National Rowing Foundation Director, Bill Miller.

After coaching 13 years at Yale University, which includes winning the Harvard-Yale Regatta the last five times and sweeping all events in 2022, Steve Gladstone will share fascinating first-hand experiences and insights about the historic regatta. Collegiate and national team rower and coach, and National Rowing Foundation Director, Bill Miller, will discuss some of the rich history behind the regatta and also what is, arguably, the most important event in American rowing: The 1869 Great International University Boat Race.

A reception will follow the presentation with special artifacts on display from the Mystic Seaport collection.
