In 1969, Black Cat was a Providence based shooting star of a blues band that lit up the northern RI club scene. The lineup is a who’s who of Rhode Island blues royalty: Duke Robillard on guitar and vocals; Johnny Nicholas on vocals, slide guitar and rhythm guitar; Steve Nardella on harmonica; Fran Christina on drums; Larry Peduzzi on bass; and, featuring very special guest: Sugar Ray Norcia.
Over the course of five decades, the members of Black Cat have collectively earned two Grammy Awards and nine Grammy nominations, in addition to numerous WC Handy and Blues Music Awards. Their work includes Top 10 hits as well as gold and platinum recordings. They have appeared on records by artists ranging from Bob Dylan and Carlos Santana to Stevie Ray Vaughan, Bonnie Raitt, Asleep at the Wheel, The Fabulous Thunderbirds and the Rolling Stones.
The band broke up in 1970, but not before writing a legendary chapter in not only Rhode Island but all blues history. Now, for the first time, audiences have the opportunity to see Black Cat reunited where it all began.
Pre-packaged concession snacks and soft drinks will be available for purchase and this event will include a limited bar featuring a selection of pre-packaged beers, wines, and canned cocktails.
