Apocalypse Now – Big Screen Society

The UNITED presents a Big Screen Society film series screening of Francis Ford Coppola’s visionary Vietnam War epic Apocalypse Now: Final Cut. Inspired by Joseph Conrad’s Heart of Darkness, Apocalypse Now follows Captain Willard (Martin Sheen) in Vietnam as he takes a perilous and increasingly hallucinatory journey upriver to find and terminate Colonel Kurtz (Marlon Brando), a once-promising officer who has reportedly gone completely mad. In the company of a Navy patrol boat filled with street-smart kids, a surfing-obsessed Air Cavalry officer (Robert Duvall), and a crazed freelance photographer (Dennis Hopper), Willard travels further and further into the heart of darkness. Released in 1979, Apocalypse Now is considered a landmark film achievement that Roger Ebert described as a “grand and grave and insanely inspired gesture of filmmaking.” Watch the Apocalypse Now: Final Cut trailer here.
The Big Screen Society is a new film series celebrating the biggest and boldest of cinema. This series highlights epic stories and unforgettable worlds viewed together on the big screen as their filmmakers intended.
