The film tells the story of a moment when radio, music, politics, and community converged — when a young Bruce Springsteen in his first radio interview says “hi” to his mom, Patti Smith lets loose live on the air, and three dollars got you into the Boston Tea Party to see The Who, the Velvet Underground, or Led Zeppelin on their first U.S. tour.
It all happened at WBCN which became a voice for people and movements rarely heard in mainstream media.
As questions about independent media, democracy, and dissent are again at the center of American life and public discussion, that history feels critically relevant.
